Overview
Tarumizu Isekisho is a little-known power spot located in Mine-no-ura, a secluded area deep within Yamadera in Yamagata City, Yamagata Prefecture. It's said to be where Jiakudai Shi Ennin, the founder of Yamadera, conceived the temple's design, lending the site historical significance. A 15-minute walk from the mountain path entrance, through lush nature, will lead you to a sudden and breathtaking sight: enormous, honeycomb-like rock formations and a torii gate. This unique landscape draws visitors into a mystical world.
Tarumizu Isekisho is known as a former training ground for yamabushi (mountain ascetics), and its history is palpable. A large rock crevice, resembling a honeycomb with numerous small holes, houses a statue of Fudo Myoo (Acala). The site also preserves remnants of ascetic practices and structures, including remains of ascetic sites and gorinto (five-ringed stone towers) caves.
Enveloped in tranquility, take a moment to feel the passage of time and imagine the yamabushi practicing their austerities here. The site's lush natural surroundings also provide an ideal environment for relaxation and rejuvenation. We want more people to discover this hidden gem, offering a different charm compared to Yamadera itself.
