Ryugado is one of Japan's largest limestone caves, located in Kami City, Kochi Prefecture. It features a mysterious landscape formed over countless years as water droplets dissolved the limestone. In addition to the well-maintained "Sightseeing Course" for general tourists, there are more intense experiences available, such as the "Adventure Course" and the "Nishimoto Cave Course," allowing you to feel the wonders of nature up close.
Ryugado is designated as a Historic Site and Natural Monument by the Agency for Cultural Affairs. The natural beauty of the cave has been preserved for many years. To protect the cave's ecosystem, access is regulated based on guidelines from the Agency for Cultural Affairs. For example, the Nishimoto Cave Course is only open from April 29th to September 30th each year, ensuring a balance between nature conservation and tourism.
The cave is filled with diverse limestone formations that overwhelm visitors. On the Sightseeing Course, you can enjoy the mystical scenery illuminated by lights along the well-maintained paths. For those seeking a more stimulating experience, the "Adventure Course" is highly recommended. Led by a navigator, you will traverse approximately 200 meters of darkness, crawling through narrow passages and climbing wooden ladders, providing a thrill unlike anything in daily life.
While Ryugado is open throughout the year, certain courses are only available during specific periods. For instance, the Nishimoto Cave Course is open only from April 29th to September 30th. Please note that due to weather or climate conditions, cave entry may be canceled even with a reservation; therefore, it is important to check the weather on the day of your visit. Visiting during bright daylight hours also allows you to enjoy the natural environment near the cave entrance.

Near the cave exit, you will find rest areas, museums, and shops. For example, the "Exit Free Rest Area Komorebi" and the Ryugado Museum allow you to spend a relaxing time after your exploration. There are also souvenir shops nearby where you can experience the culture of Tosa.
The interior of the cave is humid, so clothing that can get wet is essential. If participating in the Adventure Course, please bring a change of clothes and a towel. It is recommended to avoid wearing raincoats or windbreakers that trap heat. For footwear, prepare for wet and dirty conditions. Please note that entry is limited to elementary school students and older; individuals with physical disabilities should consult in advance regarding accessibility.
