Takeno-hama Beach is a breathtaking coastal destination located in the northern part of Hyogo Prefecture. The beach is characterized by a beautiful stretch of fine white sand lasting approximately 1 km. Notably, the water has received the highest 'Water Quality AA' certification from the Ministry of the Environment, ensuring an incredibly clear and transparent sea where you can see the seabed even at your feet. The gentle, shallow topography makes it a highly accessible and safe environment for visitors of all ages, from young children to adults.
This area is part of the San'in Kaigan UNESCO Global Geopark, a region renowned for its rich natural beauty and geological significance. The coastline has been shaped by nature over many years, and the area has been carefully developed to serve as a premier seaside resort. One of the unique cultural aspects of this beach is the presence of 'Hamachaya' (beachside tea houses). Unlike modern Western-style cafes, these traditional-style facilities allow visitors to experience a more authentic, rustic Japanese way of relaxing by the shore.
The most striking feature is the combination of the fine, powdery white sand and the high transparency of the water. The sand feels incredibly soft and smooth underfoot. Because there is very little seaweed, swimming is exceptionally comfortable and pleasant. The central part of the beach is particularly shallow, providing a safe zone for children to play in the water without worry.
The beach is officially open during the summer season, typically from early July to late August. For the most breathtaking views, visit during the bright daylight hours when the contrast between the white sand and the turquoise water is most vivid. If you wish to avoid the crowds, visiting in the morning during the summer holidays is highly recommended.
Visitors can experience the traditional Japanese style of seaside leisure. The beach features 'Hamachaya' facilities, where you can relax in well-ventilated, traditional Japanese-style rooms. Additionally, the surrounding area offers various leisure activities related to local attractions like 'Takeno Chico Lagoon,' making it a great spot for active water sports and exploration.
The area surrounding Takeno-hama is filled with scenic natural landscapes. To the west, you can enjoy the beautiful view of the Nekozaki Peninsula. Most visitors access the beach by car, as the area is well-equipped with parking lots and facilities to support travelers.
To enjoy your time at the beach, please bring swimwear, sandals, and sun protection (sunscreen/hats). If you plan to use the Hamachaya facilities, it is useful to bring a change of clothes and tools for resting. Please note that parking fees vary depending on the type of vehicle, so it is wise to check the rates in advance. Please respect local manners, such as rinsing off sand before entering shared facilities.
