Shimizu Park, located in Noda City, Chiba Prefecture, is a lush natural park with a history spanning approximately 120 years since its opening in 1894. Founded with the spirit of 'experiencing the natural life of the Jomon period,' the park remains a beloved destination for locals and tourists alike under the motto 'Friends with Nature.' Its most iconic feature is the massive field athletics course, one of the largest in Japan. The history of the park dates back to April 3, 1894, when it was opened by Kashiwae Motegi, a soy sauce brewer in Noda. During the Jomon period, this area was likely an inlet of the Tokyo Bay, and the surrounding region is still dotted with numerous Jomon-era archaeological sites. The park's design reflects a deep intention to preserve and communicate the natural environment of the past to the modern era, fostering a culture of coexistence with nature. Shimizu Park reveals a completely different face depending on when you visit. In Spring (March–April), the park is bathed in a dreamy pink hue from the cherry blossoms. In Early Summer (late April–May), the vast 70,000-square-meter area becomes a sea of color with blooming azaleas. In Autumn (October–November), the landscape turns golden and red with approximately 800 Japanese maple trees. While the daytime is perfect for active athletics, visiting the campsite at night offers the profound value of stargazing in a quiet, natural setting. Please note that operating hours are shorter during the winter season.
