Oze Ukai is a traditional cormorant fishing demonstration held on the Nagara River in Seki City, Gifu Prefecture. The scene is truly magical: the deep black of the night, the flickering red light of the bonfire (kagari-bi) reflecting on the water, and the rhythmic calls of the master fisherman (Ukai-shi) as they direct the cormorants to catch fish. This creates a world reminiscent of a classical Japanese picture scroll.
