Yatsu Rose Garden is a municipal rose garden located in Narashino City, Chiba Prefecture. Within its vast 12,600 square meter grounds, approximately 7,500 roses of 800 different varieties are meticulously planted. The sight of diverse roses blooming in orderly splendor around the central fountain never fails to enchant visitors. The collection ranges from famous exquisite varieties to historically significant old roses, allowing you to experience the global charm of roses all in one place.
The history of this garden is long and storied; it was once beloved as the 'Yatsu Amusement Park Rose Garden.' Opened in 1957 by Keisei Electric Railway, it developed into a massive rose garden once hailed as one of the finest in the Orient. After its role as an amusement park ended in 1982, it was restored as a city park in Narashino following requests from local citizens. Today, it is cherished as a beautifully maintained urban park where Western-style gardens blend seamlessly with Japanese elements like water channels and sculptures. Near the entrance, you can also find a monument related to the roots of the 'Yomiuri Giants,' a legendary name in Japanese professional baseball, adding a touch of local history to your visit.
The greatest draw is the seasonal blooming-scenery. The way the roses spread out like a colorful carpet around the central fountain makes it a perfect spot for photography. Beyond the roses, the garden offers diverse landscapes to enjoy alongside the floral scents, including water channels, sculptures, and Japanese-style garden corners. Depending on the season, special events such as rose sales, expert-led guided tours, or even light-up illuminations may be held.
Choosing the right time to visit is crucial for the best experience. There are two peak blooming seasons: Spring (mid-May to late June) and Autumn (mid-October to mid-November). In spring, you can enjoy fresh, vibrant roses, while autumn offers a more tranquil and deep-colored display. Occasionally, special evening light-up events are held, providing a rare chance to view the roses in a dreamy, illuminated atmosphere quite different from the daytime. The area surrounding Yatsu Rose Garden is a charming blend of nature and urban life. The adjacent 'Yatsu Tidal Flat' is a popular spot for nature observation. Additionally, the area is conveniently located near large residential developments like 'Yatsu Park Town,' as well as major shopping destinations such as 'LaLaport TOKYO-BAY' and the 'IKEA Funabashi' flagship store. This makes it easy to plan a full day of sightseeing, combining rose appreciation with shopping and dining. Funabashi Racecourse is also located nearby.
Please wear comfortable clothing and walking shoes, as the garden involves walking on various surfaces. Since temperatures can fluctuate by season, layering is recommended. While photography is permitted, please note that tripods and folding chairs are generally prohibited. To protect the delicate plants, please refrain from touching the roses.
