Nakayama Pass Ski Resort is a premier ski destination nestled within the breathtaking natural landscapes of Hokkaido. Its standout feature is its excellent accessibility, located just a 60-minute drive from Sapporo city center. Situated along the scenic Route 230, it is an ideal stopover during a road trip, popular for both first-time winter runs and seasonal end-of-season skiing. At an altitude of 830 meters, visitors can enjoy a rich variety of seasonal landscapes and fresh mountain air.
The Nakayama Pass area has long been recognized as a vital transportation hub in Hokkaido, and the resort has grown alongside the region's leisure culture. The facility provides diverse experiences tailored to the seasons, supporting the local winter sports culture not just through the main winter season, but also through unique 'Spring Skiing' programs and specialized 'Fan Parks' that celebrate the transition of seasons.
The resort is famous for its diverse course compositions and seasonal events. While the main winter season is spectacular, the period from April to May offers 'Spring Skiing,' allowing you to feel the arrival of spring while gliding through the snow. The dedicated 'Fan Park' area features various obstacles and structures designed to help skiers and snowboarders hone their technical skills in an active, engaging environment. Operating hours vary depending on the season. In addition to the peak winter season, 'Spring Skiing' is held from April 1st to May 6th (9:00–16:00). The 'Fan Park' operates from April 4th to May 6th (10:00–15:30). We highly recommend visiting during these periods to enjoy activities on the snow in the refreshing spring air. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced pro, there is plenty to enjoy. Beyond standard skiing and snowboarding, the resort offers private lessons provided by the SAJ (Ski Association of Japan) certified Rusutsu Resort Ski & Snowboard School. Lessons can be tailored from intensive 1-on-1 training to small groups of 2 to 5 people. For those traveling light, a comprehensive rental service is available, making it easy to visit without heavy gear.
The Nakayama Pass area offers the grand, sweeping vistas typical of Hokkaido. With many rest stops along the national highway, it is a popular destination for scenic drives. Its proximity to Sapporo, Otaru, and New Chitose Airport makes it an easy addition to any Hokkaido sightseeing itinerary. Please ensure you wear high-quality thermal clothing for protection against the cold. If you plan to use the rental service, a full set including skis, boards, boots, wear, and accessories (glouses, goggles, etc.) is available. Note that rentals should be reserved in advance. For private lessons, telephone reservation is mandatory. Please observe all safety rules on the slopes and be mindful of other visitors to ensure a pleasant experience for everyone.
