Nakasatsunai Art Village, located in Nakasatsunai Village, Kasai District, Hokkaido, is a cultural facility operated by the renowned confectionery company Rokthetei. It is celebrated as a space where nature and art are perfectly integrated. The site features various art pavilions and gardens with seasonal plantings that reflect the changing seasons. The facility is also recognized by the Japan Corporate Mecenat Council under the 'This is MECENAT' program, highlighting its role as a center for regional cultural promotion.
The facility was established based on the philosophy of Rokkatei, one of Hokkaido's most iconic confectionery makers, with the goal of promoting culture and the arts. By utilizing the rich natural environment of Nakasatsunai Village, the center serves to communicate the charm of the region through artistic expression. The design of the gardens and the selection of artworks are deeply influenced by the local climate and the harmony of the natural landscape.
There are several unique areas to explore within the Nakasatsunai Art Village. One of the primary attractions is the 'Masami Mano Art Museum,' which showcases the unique artistic world of Masami Mano, known for his distinctive illustrations for the children's poetry magazine 'Sairo.' Another highlight is the 'Nakasatsunai Art Village Garden.' This garden is divided into four themed sections, each featuring plants adapted to the cool Hokkaido climate, offering a different botanical spectacle each season. Additionally, various sculptures are scattered throughout the grounds, creating a seamless blend of art and nature.
The facility is open from late April to late October. The visiting hours vary depending on the season: during April, May, August, and September, the hours are 10:00 to 16:00. In June and July, the facility opens earlier at 09:00. In October, the closing time is 15:00. The appearance of the gardens changes significantly based on the season and the angle of the sunlight, making every visit a unique experience.
Visitors can enjoy strolling through the themed gardens and admiring sculptures integrated into the landscape. The site also features 'Restaurant Porosiri.' Please note that the restaurant is only open on Saturdays, Sundays, Mondays, and Public Holidays, from 11:00 to 15:00 (last order at 14:30). The restaurant operates on a ticket-based system, so it is highly recommended to check the operating schedule before your visit.
Nakasatsunai Village is also home to 'Rokka no Mori,' another facility operated by Rokkatei. By purchasing an 'Annual Passport,' visitors can explore both the Nakasatsunai Art Village and Rokka no Mori. The area is surrounded by vast natural landscapes, and it is easy to incorporate this visit into a sightseeing route from the Nakasatsunai Interchange.
As the facility includes gardens and outdoor exhibitions, comfortable walking shoes are highly recommended. Please prepare cash for purchasing tickets or meals at the restaurant. For the restaurant, tickets can be purchased between 10:45 and 14:30. While some signage is available, English support is limited, so please check the schedules carefully. When visiting the gardens and art pavilions, please respect the natural environment and follow the facility's rules for photography and movement.
