Awaji Farm Park England Hill is a massive agricultural park located in the central part of Awaji Island, Hyogo Prefecture. Designed to evoke the atmosphere of the English Lake District, the park opened in 2001 and boasts an expansive area equivalent to about 14 Hanshin Koshien Stadiums. The park is divided into two main sections: the 'Green Hill Area,' where various animals live, and the 'England Area,' which offers stunning, picturesque landscapes. Visitors can enjoy a variety of experiences, from meeting koalas and other wildlife to enjoying gourmet food made with local Awaji Island ingredients.
The park was established to promote local agriculture and revitalize the region. By incorporating the design elements of the English Lake District, it has created a unique landscape that stands out among Japanese agricultural parks. It is more than just a leisure facility; it serves as a cultural space centered on the coexistence of agriculture, nature, and animals.
The park features many diverse attractions. The most iconic is the koala exhibit, which serves as the symbol of the park. In addition to koalas, many other animals live here in environments that closely mimic their natural habitats. The seasonal floral displays are also a major highlight; for instance, from mid-May, you can witness approximately 110 varieties of roses in full bloom. The park is also filled with many 'Instagrammable' photo spots where you can capture beautiful scenery. To move between different areas easily, visitors can utilize the free shuttle bus service.
The scenery changes beautifully with every season. From spring to summer, you can enjoy blooming roses and the harvesting of seasonal vegetables. From autumn to winter, the park offers a more tranquil landscape and various seasonal events. Operating hours are 9:30 to 17:30 from April to September, and 9:30 to 17:00 from October to March (including weekends and holidays). Please note that the final admission is 30 minutes before the closing time, so we recommend planning your schedule with plenty of time to spare.
There are numerous activities to connect you with nature and agriculture. Programs include harvesting seasonal vegetables and making handmade crafts, allowing you to engage your senses. There are also dedicated play areas for children, making it a great place for family leisure. The on-site shops often sell local specialties and gourmet products from Awaji Island, providing a chance to experience the local food culture.
Awaji Island is home to many other sightseeing spots. Because England Hill is situated in a lush, natural environment, it is often used as a central hub for tourists exploring the coastline and other attractions around the island.
Since the park is very large, comfortable walking shoes are highly recommended. Regarding payments, credit cards and various electronic money options are accepted in addition to cash. If you wish to re-enter the park after leaving, you must obtain a re-entry certificate from a staff member. Please be aware that without this certificate, you will be required to pay the admission fee again.
