Fuji-yama Park is a scenic park centered around a 320m mountain located in the heart of Ozu City, Ehime Prefecture. As the name suggests, the mountain's silhouette resembles Japan's Mount Fuji. Because it sits at the center of the Ozu Basin, the summit offers a panoramic view of the entire basin, the flowing Hiji River, and the beautifully reconstructed Ozu Castle. Fuji-yama (Tomisuyama) has long been a symbol of Ozu. The surrounding landscape and history are deeply intertwined with the reconstruction of Ozu Castle and the local agricultural traditions. Here, approximately 63,000 azalea bushes bloom, painting the summit in vibrant shades of pink during the spring. From the well-maintained observation decks, you can look down upon the Ozu Basin and see the majestic Ozu Castle, which was reconstructed in its original wooden style in 2004. The park is also family-friendly, featuring a "Chibikko Hiroba" (Children's Plaza) and the "Fureai no Ie" rest house for a relaxing break.
Fuji-yama Park reveals a different face with every season. From late April to May, the massive number of blooming azaleas creates a breathtaking sea of color across the mountain. Other seasonal blooms include rapeseed flowers (canola) from March to April, sunflowers from July to August, and cosmos from September to October in the surrounding areas (such as near Goro-batake). For the best experience, visit during a clear day in the daytime to enjoy the sharp, vivid views of the Ozu Basin.
Visitors can enjoy leisurely strolls along established walking paths, exploring the observation decks, or playing in the children's plaza. A route is available for vehicle access toward the summit area, making it easy to reach high-altitude viewpoints. The "Fureai no Ie" facility provides a place to rest amidst nature. You can also check the real-time scenery via live camera feeds to plan your visit.
The area surrounding the park is rich with historical sites. Most notably, the authentic wooden reconstruction of Ozu Castle is a major cultural asset of the region. The landscape is also defined by the Hiji River flowing through the Ozu Basin and various seasonal flower parks, creating a perfect blend of history and nature.
