Muikamachi Hakkaisan Ski Resort is a premier ski destination located at the foot of Mt. Hakkaisan in Minamiuonuma, Niigata Prefecture. The resort is specifically designed to cater to intermediate and advanced skiers and snowboarders. Many of the courses feature unmaintained areas, making it a paradise for those seeking high-quality powder snow. The layout is centered around the Hakkaisan Ropeway, which allows visitors to access high-altitude terrain for an exhilarating descent. Beyond the winter season, the resort transforms into a hub for outdoor enthusiasts, offering activities such as hiking, mountain biking, and even a dedicated dog run during the green season.
The facility carries a rich history of local leisure, currently operated under the management of Seibu Prince Hotels Worldwide. The evolution of the ropeway system—which once operated as a gondola—has allowed the resort to remain a cornerstone of the region's winter sports culture for many years, supporting both local enthusiasts and visiting travelers.
The standout feature is the Hakkaisan Ropeway, which carries up to 81 passengers at a time to the upper reaches of the mountain. This provides breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape and access to a unique high-altitude environment. Near the midpoint of the ropeway route, you will find the "Downhill" Rest House, a perfect spot to take a break and enjoy the scenery. During the peak ski and snowboard season, the specialized powder areas become a major draw for enthusiasts looking for the ultimate snow experience.
In winter, the main attraction is navigating steep slopes and expert-level powder courses. However, there are also bypass routes available for beginners to enjoy the scenery safely. During the warmer months, the area transitions into an outdoor adventure hub featuring hiking trails and mountain biking paths.
The resort is located approximately 12 km from the Muikamachi IC on the Kan-etsu Expressway (about 20 minutes by car) and 22 km from the Uonuma IC (about 35 minutes by car). For those using public transport, you can access the resort via a local bus from Muikamachi Station on the JR Joetsu Line or Hokuriku Kyuko Hokuetsu Line.

As ropeway operating hours may change due to weather or natural conditions, we highly recommend checking the latest status before your visit.
