Matsuyama Castle is one of the 12 original surviving castle keeps in Japan, perched majestically atop Mt. Shiroyama in Matsuyama City, Ehime Prefecture. The castle's design brilliantly utilizes the natural topography of the mountain, with the main keep and stone walls harmoniously integrated into the landscape. The vast layout, originally constructed by the first lord Kato Yoshiaki, preserves the authentic structure of a historical Japanese fortress. The entire grounds of Mt. For example, every Saturday, the "Matsuyama Castle Samurai Experience" is held at the Honmaru Plaza, where you can try on traditional samurai armor for a commemorative photo. Additionally, there are cultural programs featuring staff in traditional Japanese attire who provide hospitality and share stories of the castle's history. These activities are designed to bring the history of the fortress to life.
The castle is surrounded by scenic areas including Shiroyama Park, the Ninomaru Historical Garden, and the Horinouchi district. These spaces are essential components of the historical landscape.
