Mount Ishizuchi, located in Ehime Prefecture, is the highest peak in Western Japan with an elevation of 1,986m. It has been revered for centuries as a sacred mountain of Shikoku. The surrounding Ishizuchi mountain range offers a stunning landscape with well-maintained hiking trails and trekking courses. Visitors can enjoy nature through various styles, from serious mountaineering to more accessible routes using the ropeway.
Mount Ishizuchi has been a center of spiritual worship since ancient times, treated as a sacred site. A culture deeply intertwined with the natural environment of Shikoku is rooted here, and the local communities continue to preserve traditions of living in harmony with nature.

The primary charm of Mount Ishizuchi lies in the shifting natural scenery that changes with altitude. As you ascend from the Jojosha trailhead, the vegetation transforms, leading up to the dramatic, dynamic topography near the summit. Along the trails, you will find scattered facilities such as rest areas and toilets to help maintain the environment. The mountain's appearance changes beautifully with every season, making it a constant source of fascination for hikers.
The best time to visit is from March to October. You can enjoy fresh greenery in the spring, refreshing summer climbs, and vibrant autumn foliage in the fall. However, weather conditions near the summit can change rapidly, so seasonal-appropriate gear is essential. Please note that during the winter season, some facilities and restrooms may be closed; it is highly recommended to check-in advance.

The main activities are mountaineering and trekking. You can choose a route based on your physical strength and goals, from rigorous climbs to routes that use the ropeway to gain altitude more efficiently. Trail running and other outdoor activities in the surrounding area are also popular.
The area surrounding Mount Ishizuchi is rich in natural beauty. Nearby locations such as Saijo City, Kumakogen Town, and Ito Town serve as excellent base camps for accessing the trails. These areas offer many spots to enjoy the local natural-themed tourism alongside your mountain adventure.
When climbing, you must have clothing and equipment capable of handling sudden weather changes. Mountain weather is unpredictable, so please bring rainwear and warm layers. Choose footwear specifically designed for hiking to ensure safety and stability.
Cash is generally required for facilities located along the trails or within the mountain area.
English-language signage and support are limited along the hiking trails and major access routes.
No prior reservation is required to use the hiking trails, but it is recommended to check the status of the ropeway and other facilities in advance.
