Awaji Farm Park England no Oka is a massive agricultural park located in the center of Awaji Island, Hyogo Prefecture. Designed to evoke the atmosphere of the English Lake District, the park opened in 2001 and boasts an expansive area roughly 14 times the size of Hanshin Koshien Stadium. The park is divided into two main sections: the "Green Hill Area," where various animals live, and the "England Area," which offers stunning, picturesque landscapes. Visitors can enjoy encounters with diverse wildlife, including koalas, witness seasonal botanical displays, and savor gourmet food made with local Awaji Island ingredients.
The park was established to promote local agriculture and revitalize the region. By incorporating the design elements of the English Lake District, it has created a unique landscape unlike any other agricultural park in Japan. It is more than just a leisure facility; it serves as a cultural space centered on the coexistence of agriculture, nature, and animals.
The park is dotted with many diverse attractions. The most iconic is the koala exhibit, which serves as the symbol of the park. In addition to koalas, many other animals can be observed in an environment that mimics their natural habitats. The seasonal floral displays are another major draw; for instance, from mid-May, you can see approximately 110 varieties of roses in full bloom. The park also features numerous photogenic spots perfect for social media. To make navigating the vast grounds easier, a free shuttle bus is available to move between the different areas.
Each season offers a different charm. From spring to summer, you can enjoy blooming roses, seasonal vegetable harvesting, and the vibrant growth of plants. From autumn to winter, the park offers a more tranquil landscape, often accompanied by seasonal events. Operating hours are 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM from April to September, and 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM from October to March (including weekends and holidays). Please note that the final entry is 30 minutes before the closing time, so plan your schedule accordingly.
There are various activities designed to connect visitors with nature and agriculture. Programs include harvesting seasonal vegetables and making handmade crafts, allowing you to engage your senses. For families, there are also dedicated play areas for children. The on-site shops often feature local specialties and gourmet items from Awaji Island, providing a great opportunity to experience the local food culture.
Awaji Island is home to many other tourist attractions. Located amidst the rich natural environment of the island, England no Oka serves as an excellent base for exploring the surrounding coastlines and other nearby sightseeing facilities.
Because the park is very large, comfortable walking shoes are highly recommended. Regarding payments, credit cards and various electronic money options are accepted in addition to cash. If you wish to re-enter the park during your visit, you must obtain a re-entry certificate from a staff member. Please be aware that without this certificate, you will be required to pay the admission fee again.
