Overview

Kofukuji Temple is a Shingon sect (Buzan school) temple located in Yao City, Osaka Prefecture. It served as the clan temple of the powerful Kofuji clan, who once ruled this land, and has been a center of faith for many generations. Later, in the Heian period, it became a Shingon Buddhist temple, a tradition that continues to this day. The temple grounds are enveloped in tranquility, surrounded by the greenery of ancient trees – a true urban oasis. Historical structures stand in serene rows, transporting visitors to a world beyond time. The main hall, in particular, is designated as an Important Cultural Property and showcases stunning carvings and paintings. A vibrant vermilion three-storied pagoda rises majestically in front of the main hall, serving as a symbol of the temple grounds. From the bell tower, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Yao City.
