Tanekura Village

Overview

Tanekura Village is situated in the northernmost part of Gifu Prefecture, near the border with Toyama Prefecture. By 1940, when the construction of the remaining stone-walled rice terraces began, it boasted over 20 households and a population nearing 200. The village features rows of houses built in the characteristic 'ita-kura' style, many over 100 years old. Once a prosperous center for sericulture and agriculture, Tanekura now offers a serene and peaceful atmosphere. When visiting Tanekura Village, a leisurely stroll is highly recommended.
