Nunoi-ike Pond is a healing space in Shiraishi-machi, Saga Prefecture, where history and nature intertwine. Once dried up due to excessive groundwater pumping, it was lost for over 40 years. However, thanks to the efforts of local residents, the spring water resurfaced in 2001, reborn as a miraculous pond fulfilling the people's wishes.
In the center of the pond sits Itsukushima Shrine, dedicated to the goddess Itsukushima-hime-no-mikoto, creating a quiet and sacred atmosphere. The shrine boasts a long history, said to have been founded by Taira no Kiyomori, and has been a center of faith for generations.
Nunoi-ike Pond is surrounded by lush greenery, offering beautiful scenery throughout the four seasons. Cherry blossoms bloom profusely in spring, creating a stunning reflection on the pond's surface. In summer, green leaves canopy the trees, providing cool shade. Autumn brings vibrant colors as the mountains are painted with foliage, while winter reveals a tranquil snowscape.
The water of Nunoi-ike is pure spring water from underground, suitable for drinking. It's known as 'Kinmyosui' (golden delicious water) and is cherished by the locals. A water collection point installed by local residents near the pond is a popular spot for many to draw water.
Nunoi-ike Pond is a miraculous place revived by the power of nature and the dedication of its people. Visit and experience this tranquil and healing space.
