Zao Heartland

Overview

Zao Heartland is a dairy farm experience facility located in Zaō-machi, Miyagi Prefecture. The expansive grounds feature freely roaming cows, sheep, goats, and pigs, allowing visitors to interact with them. Animals in the pasture can be interacted with even from outside the fences, providing enjoyment for both children and adults. The facility also includes a cheese factory and shop where you can savor freshly made cheese, ice cream, and soft serve. You can also purchase Zaō milk, cheese, and yogurt as souvenirs. Zao Heartland also offers workshops on butter and cheese making (reservations required). Zao Heartland is a family-friendly tourist spot where you can enjoy nature, interact with animals, and taste delicious dairy products. Zao Heartland offers breathtaking views throughout the year. Spring features cherry blossoms in full bloom, summer boasts lush green pastures, autumn displays beautiful autumn foliage, and winter offers stunning snowy landscapes. It's a worthwhile destination any time of year. Access is excellent, approximately 30 minutes from the Shiroishi IC interchange on the Tohoku Expressway via the Zao Echo Line, or about 40 minutes from the large torii gate via the Zao Highline.
