The Wind Church is a chapel located on Mount Rokko in Nada-ku, Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture. Built within the grounds of the former Rokko Oriental Hotel, it was designed by Tadao Ando and completed in 1986. Characterized by Ando's signature style of exposed concrete, its simple architectural beauty is striking. Inside, a glass-walled colonnade allows light to stream in, leading to a simple sanctuary. The contrast between the concrete and glass is beautiful, creating a sacred space of tranquility. The views from the church are spectacular, offering panoramic vistas of the majestic Rokko mountain range and the cityscape of Kobe. The Rokko Oriental Hotel closed in 2007, and the church is now used as a wedding venue and rental hall. It also serves as a venue for the Rokko Meets Art art walk, allowing visitors to enjoy contemporary art alongside the architecture. This is the perfect place for those who want to experience Ando's architecture, enjoy breathtaking views from Mount Rokko, or find peace and quiet. We highly recommend a visit.
