Hokokujinja Shrine

Overview

Hokokujinja Shrine was founded in 1603 by Hideyoshi's vassal, Kato Kiyomasa, and others, to honor the memory of Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Famous for housing Hideyoshi's mausoleum, the shrine boasts a grand-scale main hall exuding a powerful historical presence. The main hall incorporates the architectural style of the Momoyama period, adorned with magnificent decorations. The grounds also house numerous historical sites and treasures related to Hideyoshi, making it a must-see for history buffs. For example, there is a treasure hall displaying swords and armor used by Hideyoshi, and remnants of Fushimi Castle, where Hideyoshi spent his later years.
