Stairs of Happiness

Overview

The Stairs of Happiness is a spot in Hirafuku, Sayo-cho, Sayo-gun, Hyogo Prefecture, where you can stroll through a historic town. While walking through the streets preserving a nostalgic atmosphere, you can climb the Happiness Stairs and enjoy a stunning view from the ruins of Rishi Castle. From the approximately 1km-long streetscape, you can see the Rishi Castle ruins. The white-walled riverside houses, kura (storehouses), and kura-zukuri (storehouse-style) houses create a charming landscape. A peaceful atmosphere pervades the area, making it a uniquely relaxing place to explore. At the top of the stairs, a breathtaking view unfolds from the Rishi Castle ruins, allowing you to feel the grandeur of nature and history. The Rishi Castle ruins are the remains of the castle of the Sayo clan, who once ruled this land. The stone walls still remain today. As its name suggests, the Stairs of Happiness offers a sense of peace and happiness with each step you climb. Slowly ascend the stairs, enjoying the sights of the historic townscape and the magnificent view from the Rishi Castle ruins.
