The Tsugaru Iwaki Skyline is a scenic drive that takes you to the 8th station of Mount Iwaki, known as Tsugaru Fuji, in Hirosaki City, Aomori Prefecture.
Opened in 1965, it was Aomori's first toll road. The 9.8km route features 69 consecutive curves. Enjoy the thrill of these curves while taking in the breathtaking views of the Tsugaru Plain and the Sea of Japan stretching below. On a clear day, you can even see as far as Hokkaido!
The vista from the 8th station parking area, especially the view of the Tsugaru Plain and the Sea of Japan, is magnificent. You can see Shichirihama Beach, Gongen-zaki, Lake Jusanko, and on a clear day, even Ryōfui-zaki and Hokkaido.
A lift operates from the 8th to the 9th station (Chōkai Crater Station), and the summit is a 40-minute walk from the 9th station.
The Tsugaru Iwaki Skyline offers diverse ways to enjoy the mountain, from driving to hiking and using the lift for mountain climbing.
The road is also lined with beech forests, allowing you to feel immersed in the rich natural beauty. Spring showcases a vibrant display of cherry blossoms, while autumn paints the mountains with stunning fall foliage. The ever-changing beauty of the four seasons is part of its charm.
