Uheyama Rice Terraces

Overview

Uheyama Rice Terraces are located in Nukada, Koshidai-ku, Kami-cho, Mikata District, Hyogo Prefecture. Selected as one of Japan's Top 100 Rice Terraces, these beautiful mountain rice terraces offer a breathtaking view. The rice paddies layered on the slope against the backdrop of the surrounding mountains create a picturesque landscape, almost like a painting. These terraces are historically significant as the birthplace of Tajiri-go, a famous bull whose descendants make up almost all of Japan's Kuroge Wagyu cattle. You can feel a sense of history here. To maintain the terraces, local residents actively participate in their management, offering activities like farming experiences, direct rice sales, and community events. As the rice paddies cleverly utilize a landslide area, they are also designated as a geosite within the San'in Kaigan Geopark.
