Overview

Chikukouen is a cherry blossom haven located on a hilltop approximately 100m above sea level, southwest of Nichinan city. Around 1,000 Someiyoshino cherry trees create a stunning display. In spring, visitors are captivated by the enchanting cherry blossom tunnel. The park also features a beautiful Japanese garden offering seasonal beauty throughout the year. Chikukouen boasts a rich history, believed to have been established during the Edo period by Ito Sueyoshi, the lord of the Nichinan domain. It was initially used as the lord's villa. Later opened to the public, it has become a popular tourist destination. The highlight of Chikukouen is undoubtedly the breathtaking tunnel of approximately 1,000 Someiyoshino cherry trees in full bloom. During cherry blossom season, the park is painted in shades of pink. The Japanese garden also offers stunning scenery beyond cherry blossom season, especially the vibrant autumn foliage.
