Overview
Stretching along the Imotogawa River, a tributary of the Kumagawa River, the Onoguchi rice terraces are a stunning landscape, selected as one of Japan's Top 100 Rice Terraces. With an elevation difference of approximately 100m, 68 tiers of rice paddies cascade down the hillside. The stone walls, built during the Edo period, evoke a sense of history. Local legend tells of an oni (ogre) descending from the mountains to drink from the Imotogawa River, its mouth spanning the river, thus giving the location its name, Onoguchi (Ogre's Mouth). Lush green mountains surround the terraces, and the air is crisp and clean. The tranquil rural landscape offers a calming escape, allowing you to forget the passage of time. Rapeseed flowers bloom vibrantly in spring, while in autumn, the rice paddies turn a golden hue. You can enjoy the beautiful scenery throughout the four seasons. Onoguchi's rice terraces are a precious cultural heritage, a testament to the harmonious coexistence of people and nature, offering visitors peace and inspiration.
