The Mogami River Embankment Senbonzakura is a stunning spring destination in Nagai City, Yamagata Prefecture, where approximately 1,000 cherry trees bloom along the Mogami River. As the name suggests, the cherry blossom trees create a magnificent tunnel of blossoms stretching for about a kilometer. A variety of cherry tree species, including Someiyoshino and Yamazakura, are planted, offering a diverse display of colors and forms.
The best time to view the blossoms is typically from mid-to-late April. During this period, Nagai City hosts the "Oshitachi Sakura Corridor" event, which features illuminated cherry blossoms at night and food stalls.
