Ichinosaka River

Overview

Ichinosaka River flows through Yamaguchi City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, and is a second-class river in the Abukawa River system. It is said that during the Muromachi period, the Ouchi clan modeled the city layout on Kyoto's Kamogawa River, leading to Yamaguchi being known as the "Kyoto of the West". Even today, much of the old townscape remains along Ichinosaka River. In spring, the area explodes with cherry blossoms, creating a magical scene when illuminated at night. In early summer, the nationally designated natural monument, Genji fireflies, fill the air, painting a breathtaking picture. Cafes and restaurants dot the riverbanks, providing perfect spots to rest and enjoy the gentle sounds of the river during your stroll.
