Tenichi Museum is a serene museum nestled in the tranquil nature of Tanigawa, Minakami-machi, Gunma Prefecture. It showcases a collection of Japanese and international paintings and sculptures gathered by Yuuo Yabuki, the founder of the prestigious Ginza Tenichi tempura restaurant in Tokyo. It is said that Mr. Yabuki began his collection out of concern that many art pieces were flowing out of Japan after the war, driven by a desire to protect Japanese art. The museum building itself is a masterpiece designed by the celebrated architect Junzo Yoshimura. Yoshimura was known for his modern interpretations of traditional Japanese architectural styles, creating numerous structures in harmony with nature. Tenichi Museum exemplifies this philosophy, seamlessly blending the building with its natural surroundings, creating a soothing and harmonious space. The collection boasts impressive works, including Ryusei Kishida's "Portrait of Reiko." This iconic piece depicts Kishida's daughter, Reiko, captivating viewers with its realistic portrayal and Reiko's innocent expression. Other highlights include works by renowned Japanese artists such as So Taro Anzai, Takeji Fujishima, Ryusaburo Umehara, and Moriji Kumagaya. A mountain villa once owned by Mr. Yabuki is located next to the museum and is now open to the public as a beautiful garden, offering a delightful display of seasonal flowers.
