Bansho Garden is a stunning garden in Sagazaki, Wakayama City, offering panoramic views of the Kii Channel. Developed on the site of a coastal watchtower used by the Kishu Domain during the Edo period, the garden preserves remnants of the former watchtower. Enjoy a stroll through the spacious lawn and walking paths, feeling the refreshing sea breeze. From the observation deck, you can see as far as Tokushima Prefecture and Awaji Island, taking in the magnificent scenery. Bansho Garden has a rich history. During the Edo period, it served as an important base for the Kishu Domain, responsible for coastal security and intelligence gathering. Coastal watchtowers, including this one, were strategically positioned to prevent enemy ships from entering. Remnants of the watchtower's stone walls and foundation stones still remain, offering a glimpse into the past.
