Overview

Sanin Kaigan National Park's Kasumi Coast is a rocky coastline located in Kami-cho, Mikata-gun, Hyogo Prefecture, and is designated a Place of Scenic Beauty. Part of the Sanin Kaigan National Park, it offers stunning views of the Sea of Japan. The coastline, centered around Kasumi Bay, features a variety of landscapes. To the east, you'll find islands like Shiroyama Peninsula, Kuroshima, and Shiraishijima. To the west, the scenery unfolds with Kasumihama beach, the Yoroi no Sode (a nationally designated natural monument), Matsuzaki, Hachinosu Island, Takano-su Island, and Tajima Matsushima—a continuous line of sea cliffs, sea caves, and uniquely shaped rocks. Kasumi Coast is formed from the Neogene Kita-Tamba Group, rich in volcanic and sedimentary rocks, and the Shōrai Group, abundant in stratified and igneous rocks with distinct jointing. Over eons, the relentless waves have carved these formations, creating the current breathtaking landscape of continuous sea cliffs due to varying erosion rates based on the geological composition. Even within the Sanin Kaigan, known for its abundance of sea cliffs, Kasumi Coast is exceptionally notable for its complex and diverse formations.
