Shinpu Castle

Overview

Shinpu Castle holds a significant place in history as the last castle of the Takeda clan. In 1581, Takeda Katsuyori moved from Tsutsujigasaki Castle to Shinpu Castle, where he gathered his vassals and defended his territory. However, the following year, he was attacked by Oda Nobunaga's forces, and Shinpu Castle was abandoned after only one year, leading to the downfall of the Takeda clan. Today, the Shinpu Castle ruins are designated as a national historic site, and visitors can see the remaining structures of the castle. The surviving fortifications, such as the circular horse-exit (maru-umadashi), crescent-shaped moat (mikazuki-bori), and gun emplacements (teppo-degou), demonstrate the advanced castle-building techniques of the Takeda clan, offering a captivating sight for history buffs and casual visitors alike.
