Dogo Koen (Yuzuki Castle Ruins)

Overview

Dogo Koen is an Ehime Prefectural urban park (general park) in Matsuyama City, Ehime Prefecture, encompassing the ruins of Yuzuki Castle and its surrounding area. Originally, Isanami Shrine stood on this site, but during the Kenmu era, Kono Michishige constructed Yuzuki Castle, leading to the shrine's relocation to the southeast end of Dogo Mountain. Yuzuki Castle existed for approximately 250 years, from the early 14th to the late 16th century. Dogo Koen was developed on its ruins. The park preserves original moats and earthworks, along with restored samurai residences and earthen walls, and displays excavated artifacts. Dogo Koen is also known as a famous cherry blossom viewing spot, attracting numerous visitors in spring. Approximately 1,000 cherry trees are planted within the park, creating a breathtaking spectacle of blossoms during the hanami season. The park also features an observation deck offering panoramic views of Matsuyama City. From the deck, you can enjoy magnificent vistas of Dogo Onsen Honkan (main bathhouse) and the cityscape.
