INFO
The park is open 24 hours, but please be aware that the summit parking lot is only accessible from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and overnight parking is not permitted. The summit lot can accommodate 90 vehicles, while the foothill parking lot offers space for 200. Additionally, be mindful of tree branches that may extend onto the road while driving.
Perched atop Ohira-yama, Hofu City's highest peak at 631.3 meters (2,071 feet), Ohira-yama Summit Park is a versatile observation park that captivates every visitor. From the summit, you can enjoy sweeping vistas of the Hofu Plain, the picturesque multitude of islands in the Seto Inland Sea, and even as far as the Kunisaki Peninsula in Kyushu on clear days. A truly breathtaking spectacle unfolds around the Golden Week holidays in spring, when approximately 100,000 azalea bushes burst into bloom, transforming the mountainside into a magnificent pink carpet. The "Ohira-yama Azalea Festival," held during this period, is a major event that draws throngs of flower enthusiasts. The park is thoughtfully divided into four distinct areas: the Observation Plaza, Lawn Area, Play Area, and Multi-purpose Area, all equipped with extensive facilities like athletic equipment and combination play structures to ensure children can play safely and joyfully. Among these, the "Chibikko Gelende" (Kids' Slope), where visitors can slide down artificial turf on sleds or skis, is a highly popular attraction for all ages. The gondola of a former ropeway, which operated for over 50 years before its retirement in 2015, remains as a monument at the former summit station site. It now serves as a "special seat" offering panoramic views of the Hofu Plain and a unique, retro-themed photo spot. This park, a harmonious blend of stunning views, exciting play, and fascinating history, allows families and friends to fully immerse themselves in the seasonal beauty of nature. It truly stands as a treasure of Yamaguchi Prefecture.
