Overview

Totsukawa Onsen is a tranquil hot spring resort nestled in a serene mountain valley in Totsukawa Village, Yoshino District, Nara Prefecture. The history of Totsukawa Onsen dates back to the Genroku period (1688-1704) when the hot springs were first discovered. In 1974, the completion of the Futsu-no Dam led to the development of the hot spring town, channeling the spring water to the Hiratani area on the lakeshore. Totsukawa Onsen is renowned for its high-quality waters, earning a place among Japan's Top 100 Hot Springs (Nihon Hyaku-meiyu). The spring water is a sodium-hydrogen carbonate spring, reputed to be effective for various ailments including neuralgia, muscle pain, joint pain, and poor circulation.
