The Yokotone Lock Gate was built to adjust the water level difference between the Tone River and the Yokotone River. Completed in 1921 (Taisho 10), it's a valuable structure still in operation today. Employing the same double-lock, double-door system as the Panama Canal, it allows for smooth water level adjustment without height restrictions for passing vessels. It's the only remaining operational lock gate from the Taisho era and is designated as a Nationally Important Cultural Property. This historically significant structure captivates many visitors. You can learn about its structure, mechanism, and history, and even observe boats passing through. The surrounding Yokotone Lock Gate Fureai Park features walking paths and rest areas, offering a relaxing place to enjoy the natural environment and delve into the history of the lock gate.
