Shiba Toshogu Shrine is a Toshogu shrine located in Minato-ku, Tokyo, dedicated to Tokugawa Ieyasu. Originally within the grounds of Zojoji Temple, it became independent following the Meiji era's separation of Shinto and Buddhism. The shrine grounds feature a statue of Tokugawa Ieyasu and a large ginkgo tree believed to have been planted by Iemitsu. Situated in Shiba Park with views of Tokyo Tower, it provides a peaceful retreat from the city's noise.
The history of Shiba Toshogu Shrine begins with the will of Tokugawa Ieyasu, who wished for a place where his spirit could eternally rest. His third shogun grandson, Iemitsu, fulfilled this wish, constructing the present shrine building in 1633 (Kan'ei 10). After several renovations, it has reached its current state.
