Overview

Daibikaku Sengyoji Temple is an independent temple of the Obaku sect located in Arashiyama, Kyoto. In 1614 (Keicho 19), the wealthy merchant Sumimura Ryoi relocated Sengyoji Temple, originally located in Chūin, Saga, to its current site to commemorate those who died during the Oigawa River excavation project. The temple is renowned for its stage-style Kannon hall, "Daibikaku," dramatically built into a sheer cliff face. From Daibikaku, visitors are treated to a breathtaking, panoramic view of the majestic Arashiyama landscape and the Hozugawa River, a sight that captivates all who witness it.
