Honkyoji Temple

Overview

Honkyoji Temple is a Tendai Buddhist temple founded in the early Heian period. It once thrived as the center of a region known as "Oharano." Initially located west of the current main hall, the temple is said to have been relocated several times before settling in its present location. The temple grounds feature a main hall, a three-storied pagoda, a bell tower, and other structures, each exuding a historical ambiance. The three-storied pagoda, in particular, is designated as an Important Cultural Property of Kyoto Prefecture, its elegant form captivating visitors.
