The Former Yakage Honjin Ishii Residence is a nationally designated Important Cultural Property located in the heart of Yakage-cho, which thrived as a post town on the San'yo Road during the Edo period. The expansive 1,000-tsubo (approx. 3,300 sq m) site features numerous buildings that evoke daily life from that era, including the O-narimono-mon gate (official gate), allowing visitors to experience the bustling atmosphere of the past. The museum displays precious documents, including records of Atsuhime's stay during her journey from Satsuma to Edo to marry into the Shogun family. The Ishii family also ran a sake brewery for generations, and the brewery buildings and tools are still preserved. You can touch the history and culture of the time, feeling the romance of the past.
