"Tougenkyou" (Peach Blossom Paradise) in Kino-kawa City, Wakayama Prefecture, is a stunning spring spectacle featuring approximately 100,000 peach blossoms in full bloom. Located on the south side of the Kino River, the sight of the blossoms from late March to early April truly lives up to its name.
Tougenkyou has a long history as a peach-producing region, dating back to the Edo period. Many farmers cultivated peaches using the abundant water and fertile soil of the Kino River. However, peach cultivation declined over time.
Recently, however, it has regained attention as the "Arakawa Peach" brand. Known for their high sugar content and rich aroma, Arakawa Peaches captivate food lovers nationwide.
When visiting Tougenkyou, be sure to sample some Arakawa Peaches for a taste of their freshness. During peach blossom season, you can also find locally-produced peach sweets and peach liqueurs—perfect souvenirs!
Tougenkyou is a captivating place where nature and culture blend seamlessly. It's a recommended sightseeing spot where you can enjoy the beauty of the peach blossoms and the delicious taste of peaches as you welcome the arrival of spring.
