Saraki Cape in Kikonai-cho, Hokkaido, is a captivating place where history and nature intertwine. It's believed that the *Kanrin Maru*, a warship owned by the Edo shogunate, sank offshore in 1871. This ship, Japan's first Western-style warship, famously crossed the Pacific Ocean carrying notable figures like Kaishu Katsu and Yukichi Fukuzawa, playing a significant role in the turbulent period leading up to the Meiji Restoration. At Saraki Cape, you'll find a memorial and monuments commemorating the *Kanrin Maru*'s final moments, allowing you to reflect on history while enjoying the beautiful scenery. Since November 2003, local residents have spearheaded efforts to cultivate flowerbeds, transforming the area into a breathtaking spring spectacle of 50,000 tulips. In early summer, the cape is awash in a vibrant array of colors. Saraki Cape also boasts stunning views of the Tsugaru Strait and the vast Pacific Ocean.
