Beni-shidare Jizo Sakura is a single Beni-shidarezakura (weeping cherry tree with red blossoms) located in Okonai, Kimezawa, Nakata-machi, Koriyama City, Fukushima Prefecture. This massive tree is 380 years old, 16 meters tall, and boasts a branch spread of 18 meters. It's said to be the daughter of the famous Miharu Takizakura. Every year from late April to early May, its vibrant red blossoms create a stunning spectacle that captivates many visitors. Under the tree sits a Jizo-do (Jizo hall), where people have traditionally prayed to protect their infants from premature death. This is why the tree is called "Jizo Sakura."
Beni-shidare Jizo Sakura is located just a 15-minute drive from Miharu Takizakura. This proximity often leads to its inclusion in cherry blossom viewing package tours, making it a part of a scenic route. Notably, it was ranked second in the "Fukushima Prefecture Single Cherry Blossom Tree Ranking" compiled by the Fukushima Minpo, a local newspaper, earning the title of "West Yokozuna" (champion wrestler) after Miharu Takizakura.
