Overview

Oboke Onsen is a hot spring resort located in Mioshi City, Tokushima Prefecture, nestled within the Oboke Gorge in the midstream region of the Yoshino River. Two onsen Ryokans offer a chance to soak in the alkaline simple hot spring water, a cool mineral spring with a source temperature of 21℃. Famous as the "Youthful Skin Spring," its charm lies in the ability to enjoy the onsen while taking in the magnificent scenery. There are no public bathhouses; day trips require using the day-trip reception services of the Ryokans. Designated a national natural monument, Oboke Gorge is a breathtaking spectacle of bizarre rock formations and deep green valleys. Formed over millennia by the erosive power of the Yoshino River, it's a V-shaped valley with dramatic cliffs that will leave you awestruck. Numerous oddly shaped rocks of varying sizes rise from both banks of the river, resembling natural sculptures. Oboke Onsen visitors should consider a scenic boat trip on the Oboke Gorge cruise. This offers an up-close and personal view of the gorge's beauty. A short walk from the boat landing brings you to the Iya Kazurabashi vine bridge, a designated Important Cultural Property. This 45-meter-long, 1.5-meter-wide bridge, woven from shii tree vines, provides a thrilling experience with its slight swaying motion.
