Fujimi Panorama Resort, nestled in Fujimi-machi, Suwa-gun, Nagano Prefecture, is a year-round highland resort utilizing the eastern slopes of Mt. Nyukasa, located at the northern end of the Southern Alps mountain range. Its history began with the opening of its ski resort in 1987, and since then, it has attracted not only winter sports enthusiasts but also many people seeking an outdoor activity hub during the green season.
The biggest attraction in winter is its ski slopes, offering a magnificent long cruising experience of up to 3,000m with an altitude difference of 730m. The high altitude and cool climate bring excellent quality snow, allowing skiers to glide under blessed weather with an 85% clear sky rate, all while enjoying breathtaking views of the Northern and Southern Yatsugatake mountain ranges, and even Mt. Fuji in the distance. There are seven diverse courses catering to all levels, from beginners to advanced skiers. Especially for beginners and families with small children, the family slopes and kids' park, both accessible by gondola, offer a safe and enjoyable experience.
From spring to autumn, the slopes transform into one of Japan's largest mountain bike courses. It features a range of trails, from challenging routes where professional riders train to "easy courses" perfect for beginners to enjoy a downhill experience. Moreover, a 10-minute gondola ride will take you to the summit station at an altitude of 1,780m. From there, you can explore the expansive Nyukasa Wetland and the Alpine Wildflower Park, where about 150 species of lovely wildflowers bloom, such as dogtooth violets in May, lilies of the valley in June, and Cypripedium macranthos f. album from July onwards, offering a soothing experience for visitors. Trekking Mt. Nyukasa is also popular; even beginners can reach the summit in about an hour. From the peak, a stunning 360-degree panorama unfolds, encompassing Mt. Fuji, the Yatsugatake Mountains, and the Southern, Central, and Northern Alps. It's astonishing to think you can spot 30 of Japan's 100 Famous Mountains (Hyakumeizan) from this single vantage point.
Furthermore, the view from the Yatsugatake Observation Deck, certified as a "Lover's Sanctuary," is renowned as a power spot for deepening love. There's a legend that promises "eternal happiness" at the "Heart Slope" near the gondola summit. Another notable service is the ability to ride the gondola with your dog and stroll through the silvery winter landscape or the lush green wetlands. The resort also offers a wide range of pet supplies, making it irresistible for dog lovers. In early autumn mornings, when conditions are right, the "Premium Sea of Clouds Gondola" operates, offering breathtaking views of the expansive sea of clouds, promising emotionally resonant experiences throughout the four seasons. With excellent access, approximately 90 minutes by car from Tokyo, it's the ultimate resort recommended for anyone looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and refresh their mind and body.
