Tanjoji Temple is a temple of the Jodo sect, built to commemorate Honen Shonin, the founder of the Jodo sect, who was born here. Honen Shonin was a prominent monk during the Kamakura period, and he nurtured many disciples, including Shinran and Ippen, significantly developing the Jodo sect. As Honen Shonin's birthplace, Tanjoji Temple is a sacred site visited by many worshippers.
