INFO
Season passes are available for purchase at Restaurant Akari from November 26th. Day tickets can be purchased at the No. 2 lift station. Lift and Sky Lator operations may be suspended or canceled due to weather conditions (e.g., lightning, thunderstorms, heavy storms). We highly recommend checking the official website for real-time operation status before your visit. The Shiga-Kusatsu Road is subject to winter closures, which may make the section from Manza Sansaro to Sessho on the Gunma Prefecture side impassable. During winter, we recommend taking precautions for snowy roads, such as using snow tires or chains. Please note that the restrooms inside the summit station building are currently undergoing renovation (expected to be completed by November), so temporary toilets are available for use.
Nestled deep within Shiga Kogen, Yokoteyama & Shibu Pass Ski Resort boasts the highest elevation in Japan at 2,307m (7,569ft). Thanks to its privileged location, it attracts visitors with diverse charms throughout the year.
In winter, during peak season, it receives an abundance of powder snow that even impresses those from Obihiro City, Hokkaido, offering an unparalleled skiing experience. Furthermore, magnificent frost-covered trees, said to be unique to the Kanto and Koshinetsu regions, adorn the slopes like 'snow monsters.' From the summit of Yokoteyama, you can take in not only the immediate views of Shiga Kogen but also the Nagano Basin, the magnificent panorama of the Northern Alps, and even Mt. Asama and Mt. Fuji. It truly lives up to its name as a 'Ski Resort in the Sky,' offering breathtaking scenery.
Lifts are divided into the Yokoteyama area and Shibu Pass area, with a total of 10 diverse courses, ranging from the beginner-friendly First Slope and gentle 'Road Around' course (utilizing the national highway) to the advanced Jumbo Course boasting a maximum gradient of 28 degrees. Beginners can also take the Sky-lator and a series of lifts to reach the summit, simply enjoy the view, and then ride the lift back down.
Beyond skiing, you can savor freshly baked bread and the famous mushroom soup at Japan's highest bakery, 'The Summit Bakery,' located inside the summit hut, or at the 2307 Sky Cafe located at 'Nozoki' (the lookout point) at an elevation of 2,050m (6,726ft).
The green season also offers endless attractions. Take Japan's only Sky-lator and a connecting lift, reaching the 'Manten View Terrace' at the summit in about 15 minutes. Here, you can enjoy the fresh greenery of spring, the cool breezes of summer, the vibrant autumn foliage, and an unobstructed, star-filled night sky. It's also an ideal base for driving and trekking, with excellent access from the Shiga-Kusatsu Kogen Route. Yokoteyama & Shibu Pass Ski Resort is packed with seasonal nature, magnificent views, and unique experiences that can only be found here.
