Nestled in the central area of Shiga Kogen, Nishitateyama Ski Resort spreads across the southern foothills of Mount Nishitateyama, boasting an elevation of 1,756m. It's a slope rich in history and proven success. The 'World Cup Course' retains the legacy of the 'Nishitateyama Giant Slalom Course,' once an FIS-certified giant slalom track that hosted numerous international competitions, continuing to attract many skiers to this day. With a balanced distribution of courses—30% advanced, 40% intermediate, and 30% beginner—skiers of all levels, from novices to veterans, can find their perfect run.
Notably, the uppermost part of the ski resort features a ridge-like open area, offering breathtaking 360-degree panoramic views. To the east, you can see Takamagahara Mammoth Ski Resort, and to the west, the magnificent peaks of the Northern Japan Alps. On clear days, imagine the exhilarating experience of skiing with this spectacular scenery as your backdrop.
The main lift, the 'Nishitateyama No. 1 Hooded Quad Lift,' is a high-speed, hooded lift, ensuring comfortable access to the summit area even on cold days. This significantly enhances accessibility to a variety of courses.
Furthermore, Nishitateyama Ski Resort offers the huge advantage of being interconnected with neighboring Takamagahara Mammoth, Hoppo Bunadaira, and Giant Ski Resorts, allowing skiers to traverse freely as part of Shiga Kogen's vast slope network and enjoy a wide range of skiing experiences. While there are no restaurants directly within the ski resort, dining and rest options are available at nearby ski areas and accommodations in Hoppo Onsen.
The season runs from late December to early May, offering a relatively long period to enjoy the slopes. The snow quality is consistently excellent, especially during the spring skiing season, where you can fully savor the high-quality snow unique to high-altitude Shiga Kogen.
Due to its geographical features, Nishitateyama Ski Resort is enclosed by valleys from the mid-section onwards, making it less susceptible to wind. It also boasts the advantage of being relatively easy to ski even in stormy weather. It's also ideal for advanced skiers looking to practice, with diverse courses that will keep you engaged. If you're visiting Shiga Kogen, we highly recommend experiencing the varied charms and stunning scenery of Nishitateyama Ski Resort.
