Aizu Kogen Daikura Ski Resort, nestled in the Oku-Aizu region of Minamiaizu Town, Fukushima Prefecture, is a hidden gem blessed with abundant nature and exceptional snow quality. Since its opening in 1982, this resort has been beloved by locals. Its main attraction is undoubtedly the 'supreme powder snow' generated by its highest elevation of 1,200 meters. The east-facing slopes and terrain surrounded by 1,000-meter-class mountains minimize sun exposure, keeping the snow in pristine condition. With 12 diverse courses, ranging from the gentle 'Dai-chan Park' for beginners, the 'Shirakaba Slope' for intermediates, to the steep 'Daikura Slope' (600m long with a 200m vertical drop) which inspired the resort's name, every level of skier and snowboarder will find something to enjoy.
Families, in particular, will discover plenty to love. The kids' area, equipped with a snow escalator, gently supports children's first experiences on skis. At the SAJ-certified ski school and JSBA-certified snowboard school, experienced instructors provide careful guidance. It has received high praise in reviews, with comments like 'cost-performance is excellent with family-friendly pricing' and 'highly recommended for kids.'
While it's a bit of a drive from the expressway, clever transportation options are available, such as shuttle bus services for Tobu Railway's overnight day-trip train 'Snowpal 23:55' from the city center. There are also guesthouses around the slopes, making it a great option for an overnight stay to fully immerse yourself in Oku-Aizu's winter. Another major draw is the lack of crowds and short wait times, allowing you to focus on skiing without stress. The superb snow quality, diverse courses, family-friendly environment, and its 'hidden gem' appeal all combine to make Daikura Ski Resort the perfect setting for unforgettable winter memories.
