INFO
In winter, the steep uphill access roads require studless tires or snow chains. Parking is free. Snowboarding is prohibited on the Kamoshika Course. Please note that the First Slope and the Main Slopes (Slopes 2-6) are separated by a prefectural road, so you cannot transfer between them while wearing your skis. Bringing pets into the facility is strictly prohibited, even in a carrier. Visitors are generally expected to take their trash home, though a paid disposal service is available. As the area is located within Joshinetsu Kogen National Park, the collection of alpine plants, wild vegetables, mushrooms, etc., taking photos or sketching within areas of vegetation, and bringing in insect cages or nets (to protect alpine butterflies) are all prohibited.
Yunomaru Ski Resort is a historic ski area, with its slopes first opened in 1928. Full-scale development began in 1961 with the installation of ski lifts. Located on a plateau at an elevation of 1,965m, it offers high-quality natural powder snow and a wide variety of courses, especially for beginner to intermediate skiers. The slopes are broadly divided into east and west sections. Since they are separated by a prefectural road, it's not possible to travel between them while wearing skis. The "Kamoshika Course" on the west side is a 2,200m tree-lined course where snowboarding is not permitted, but if you're lucky, you might have the surprising encounter of seeing a real serow (kamoshika).
Outside of the ski season, it transforms into "GMO Athletes Park Yunomaru," offering high-altitude training facilities. These include an all-weather 400m track, an indoor swimming pool (50m, 8 lanes), and trail running courses. This facility, utilized by many top athletes, also features general lodging and campsites, allowing visitors to enjoy outdoor activities like hiking, mountain climbing, and camping in the summer. Additionally, the facility boasts the "Nissui Yunomaru Athlete Shokudo" (dining hall) supervised by Kagawa Nutrition University, where you can enjoy nutritionally balanced meals. Yunomaru Kogen, offering 360-degree panoramic views, is a highland resort with diverse attractions throughout all four seasons.
