Shiga Kogen Yakebitaiyama Ski Resort, though one of the later additions to Shiga Kogen, opening in 1983, has captivated countless skiers and snowboarders with its innovative approaches and abundant natural environment. Sprawling across Mt. Yakebitaiyama at an elevation of 2,011m, the slopes boast average seasonal temperatures ranging from a high of -2℃ to a low of -13℃. This cold, low-humidity environment with minimal impurities creates its prized "powder snow." This silky, exquisite snow quality promises a floating sensation, almost like gliding on clouds.
The resort offers a rich variety of 19 courses, ingeniously designed to utilize the natural terrain. With a maximum run length of 2.4km and a total run length of 16km, its vast scale ensures satisfaction for all, from beginners to advanced riders. Of particular note is the "Olympic Course," which hosted the Alpine Ski Slalom and Snowboard Giant Slalom events during the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics. Today, it's groomed and open as a wide, open slope perfect for high-speed turns. Additionally, newly established un-groomed powder areas like "Yakebi Wall" and tree run courses such as "Yakebi Valley" will ignite the challenging spirit of advanced skiers.
Two gondola lifts (No. 1 and No. 2) provide highly convenient access directly from the parking lot and hotels to the summit. This allows for efficient long cruising and easy access to the adjacent Okushiga Kogen Ski Resort and Ichinose Yamanokami Ski Resort.
The resort also offers family-friendly services, such as "Free Lift Tickets for Elementary School Students and Younger" and "Free Weekday Lift Tickets for 20-Year-Olds," making it appealing to families and young adults. With high standards in snow quality, courses, facilities, and services, Yakebitaiyama Ski Resort promises an unparalleled winter sports experience.
